If you are vacationing on Southern Öland, or just need somewhere to sleep, for you there is Ölands southernmost hostel and campground, located about 55 km south of Öland Bridge, 6 km north of Öland’s southern tip next to Ås church.
Here at Ottenby Hostel & Campsite, situated in a World Heritage Site, Southern Öland Odligslandskap, rich in historical findings and experiences of nature, a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. Around the hostel there are plenty of footpaths and trails for leisurely walks and excursions, if you want to get ahead a little faster and still enjoy nature, there are also bikes for rent. Several excursions as Eketorp Castle, Karl X Gustafs stone wall, lighthouse Långe Jan, a Visitor Centre and Ottenby Bird Observatory and for the sporty Grönhögen Links, one of the most exciting golf courses are within a radius of 7 km from the hostel. All this makes Ottenby Hostel & Camping to an ideal base for an adventure on Southern Öland.
We have 50 rooms: 2, 3 and 4-bed rooms, some disabled, within the area are also camping with electricity and space for camping and two heated pools.
The complex
Today the business includes both hostel and camping.
The hostel consists of the following buildings, Åsgården which houses the reception, which also applies to the camping, breakfast serving and the Great Hall, Angle Building (31 rooms/81 beds), the military barrack (13/51) and the primary school (6/18) the latter three buildings also includes service functions such as showers, toilets and a self-catering kitchen.
The campsite has its own service building with showers, toilets and kitchen with additional wash-up sites, 48 camping lots with electricity and 12 without and some other places for tents, the area also have a pool house that includes living room with TV and of course, dressing and shower rooms for the pool guests.
The pool
We have two heated pools, including a children’s pool.
The pools are open from May to September when the weather permits.
The pool is open to the public 1/7 to 12/8.
Hours 11-17, day pass 30 Skr.
Accommodation at the facility – uses the pool at evenings at no cost.
History
In Ottenby there have been STF youth hostel since 1935, during the first years in Näsby old vicarage, from 1947 in a house at Ottenby Kungsgård, which held 16 beds, then in different parts of Näsby, it then moved to the current address in 1961. This property was originally built as a school in 1861, after the school was closed in 1960, the hostel moved in, by then the business had expanded to 32 beds. In the following years, several buildings was moved to the property, and today there are 150 beds in 50 rooms.
During the mid-1980s the business expanded with a more permanent camp site, previously it had been tents in the garden when the hostel was fully booked.
In the summer of 2002 the pools and the new lounge was inaugurated.
